Nord Stream 2 AG completes Russian public consultations

Nord Stream 2 AG, the developer of a new pipeline to supply Russian natural gas through the Baltic Sea to the EU market, has completed the 60 day public consultation process on the draft EIA report for the project in Russia.
During public consultations Nord Stream 2 has received a number of statements to the draft EIA report from environmental NGOs, academic institutions and the public. The statements will be considered when finalising the technical design, the environmental impact assessment and mitigation measures.
They will also be included in the ‘Materials of Public Consultation’ within the final EIA documentation to be submitted for the state environmental expert review in the next month.
The draft EIA report was released for public review on 4 August 2017 and the public hearing was held on 4 September in Kingisepp, Russia. There all stakeholders had the opportunity to provide their feedback and comments on the environmental aspects of the project.
During the public consultation period, the company engaged in a proactive and substantive dialogue with environmental experts and the public. In particular, the project organised round table discussions on key environmental issues. The project was presented in nine communities in the Kingisepp district, where more than 200 residents took part in the information meetings organised by the regional and municipal authorities. Additionally, four focus-group meetings on specific environmental topics were held with environmental scientists, experts and NGO representatives in August.
Nord Stream 2 welcomes a constructive dialogue to ensure environmentally sound project implementation and appreciates all relevant input, comments and recommendations.
