Transneft Upper Volga has completed technological connection of newly constructed sections to the Surgut - Polotsk oil trunk pipeline that is being reconstructed.

The works were carried out on the Russian territories of the Republic of Mari El, Nizhny Novgorod, Ivanovo and Vladimir Regions around the clock within 72 hours during a scheduled shutdown of the oil pipeline.

The reconstruction of the sections of the Surgut - Polotsk oil trunk pipeline began in early 2019. The works included making 95 crossings with utilities, such as oil pipelines, communications cables, high-voltage lines and roads.

The total length of the connected sections was more than 13 km. Hydraulic tests and inline inspection were carried out. The connection was conducted simultaneously at 14 points; 25 pipe handlers and 16 excavators were involved.

The revamping of the sections of the Surgut - Polotsk trunk pipeline was carried out as part of Transneft’s technical upgrading programme. The goal is to increase the reliability and ensure uninterrupted oil transportation through Transneft’s system of oil trunk pipelines.

Oil pumping was resumed on schedule and is currently being carried out according to the standard protocol.
