A ministerial delegation led by Mr. Noureddine Bedoui, Minister of the Interior and Local Government and Territorial Planning, accompanied by Mr. Mustapha Guitouni, Minister of Energy, and the President Director General of SONATRACH, Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour yesterday inaugurated the project of natural gas supply to the city of Tamanrasset through the development of the gas field of Tidikelt (in Salah), where SONATRACH realised a gas treatment unit of a capacity of 750 000 m3/d of gas.

Financed by the State, for a total budget of 22 billion dinars (US$191 million), the realisation of this project of gas pipeline of a length of 550 km was entrusted to SONATRACH. Its construction lasted 36 months and saw the participation of several subsidiaries of SONATRACH and national companies specialised in the oil industry including, ENGCB, Cosider and Canagaz.

"This is a strategic work for the city of Tamanrasset and the entire region," said Noureddine Bedoui on the occasion of the commissioning of this natural gas supply project, which was realised in record time.

The impact of this project is not insignificant, since in addition to supplying natural gas to the city of Tamanrasset, this new investment is expected to generate a strong fuel oil and propane gas economy from the cities of Hassi Messaoud and Adrar.

On the other hand, the arrival of natural gas in the region via this new gas pipeline will boost the local economy by allowing new investments of factories and other infrastructure operating in natural gas.

Through this complex and timely project, SONATRACH once again confirms its role as a key player for national development.
