World Pipelines,
Russian aggression against Ukraine continues to be fueled by profits from the sale of hydrocarbons. Oil hit US$140 a barrel on 6 March and that is strengthening Russia’s confidence in the availability of financial resources for new missiles it can use against peaceful Ukrainian cities.
Mr. Maxim Timchenko, CEO of DTEK said:
On behalf of 250 000 Ukrainian power engineers, gas workers and miners, we ask you to protect the lives of our children by completely embargoing Russian oil and gas, today. URALS and ESPO crude oil grades should become toxic, meaning they cannot be sold either directly or through intermediaries.
A complete embargo of URALS and ESPO oil won’t lead to turmoil in the Western world, as Russian propaganda is saying. The regime in Moscow is trying to make the Western world an accomplice in its crimes against humanity.
There are enough producers in the world capable of compensating for the loss of Russian oil. In addition, there is plenty of oil in governments’ strategic reserves. European countries have at least seven months to find alternative resources and transform their energy consumption before the new heating season.
Our families do not have the luxury of that security or that time. Our homes are being destroyed now.
We are convinced this is the only way to force Russia to stop the war, to stop the killing of civilians, the destruction of houses, schools, kindergartens and hospitals. Don't be complicit! Stop supporting the killing of Ukrainian children! Launch a complete embargo on oil and gas from Russia now!
