ROSEN wins Business Innovation Award for NIPA at the Gas Industry Awards 2026

The Business Innovation Award honours organisations committed to developing and applying new technologies and ways of working to address key industry challenges.

ROSEN’s NIPA service was recognised for its innovative, data-driven and AI-supported approach to pipeline integrity management. Developed to overcome the limitations of traditional Direct Assessment (DA) methods for unpiggable and complex pipelines, NIPA addresses corrosion threats by layering inputs from above ground survey methods such as Close Interval Potential Survey (CIPS) and Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG), with ROSEN’s patented Large Standoff Magnetometry (LSM) survey method, and critically AI supported pipeline condition predictions (Virtual-In-Line Inspection) powered by ROSEN’s Integrity Data Warehouse (IDW). The IDW contains data from over 26,000 in-line inspections worldwide integrated with extensive environmental data such as soil types, slopes, rainfall, roads, railways, rivers, population density, and more. By combining and analysing these inputs, NIPA enhances confidence in anomaly detection, delivering reliable insights into pipeline condition, and enabling critical decisions.

NIPA is already delivering measurable impact in real-world operations. In one deployment, the solution identified previously undetected significant metal-loss features that required repair for safe operation, demonstrating strong detection reliability and reinforcing confidence in the approach. In 2025 alone, the service was deployed across more than 700 km of pipeline using a combination of ground-based teams and drone-enabled data capture.

This holistic methodology allows operators to demonstrate that their pipelines continue to operate safely, optimise excavation and repair activities, focus non-destructive testing (NDT) efforts where they matter most, and prioritise genuinely high-risk pipelines for conversion to allow future internal inspection. NIPA’s flexible design ensures it can be tailored to individual requirements, ranging from full network screening to targeted above-ground inspections delivering comprehensive integrity assessments and full lifecycle integrity management strategies.

Lewis Barton, Service Manager for NIPA at ROSEN, commented: “This award recognises not just a technical innovation, but the delivery of a solution operators can truly rely on; one that is robust, auditable, and aligned with international standards. I’m delighted to see NIPA accepted in this way, as it reflects how we are helping to pave the way for safer, more informed integrity decisions across our industry. Our focus has always been on building trust through strong governance and consistent delivery.”

Jabbar Mirzoev, Vice President - NDT Service Line at ROSEN, added: “It is a testament to the commitment of a multidisciplinary team, from integrity engineers and data scientists to field specialists, who have worked together to transform an idea into a globally deployed, end-to-end solution.

We’re also grateful to our clients and industry partners who challenged us, collaborated with us, and trusted us from the early stages. We look forward to continuing to work together and expanding this success into new regions, delivering safer and more reliable pipeline operations globally.”

The judging panel praised ROSEN’s measurable impact, strong research and development commitment, and the successful deployment of innovative technologies in real-world operations. Powered by a global network of engineering and scientific expertise, NIPA sets a new benchmark for data-driven pipeline integrity management, combining innovation, precision, and reliability at scale. This award cements ROSEN’s position at the forefront of integrity management and underscores its commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation to meet the evolving demands of global energy infrastructure.
