CORROSION 2019 to welcome attendees worldwide

Special forums will address such topics as microbiologically influenced corrosion for the onshore and offshore oil and gas industry; common coating failures and how to prevent them; how to strengthen organisations with effective leadership; a regulator and industry perspective on best pipeline safety practices; and how the corrosion industry is revolutionising corrosion management, featuring the IMPACT Plus online portal with tools and resources to ensure best practices in corrosion programs throughout organisations. In addition, attendees are invited to learn about corrosion issues specific to areas of the world that include the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

During the Middle East and Africa forum, corrosion experts will present case studies from these countries and discuss how the harsh environment, including extremely high temperatures, high salinity, and high humidity, present serious challenges to control corrosion. They will showcase the latest developments in corrosion research and innovative ways of protecting assets such as pipelines in these environments. Expert presenters in the Latin America forum will focus on corrosion issues common in those countries, such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, pitting, high-temperature corrosion, and ageing of the infrastructure.

More than 200 technical and administrative meetings will be held throughout the week, enabling members to work on standards and reports, exchange technical information, and manage association business. The technical program, with more than 45 symposia, will feature paper presentations on a wide range of corrosion topics. New this year are symposia focused on corrosion control for aboveground storage tanks, erosion-corrosion, advances in coatings under insulation technologies, nonmetallic materials for oil and gas production environments, and more.

The accompanying NACE Expo will feature more than 350 companies displaying the latest in corrosion control products and services. In addition, the cathodic protection (CP) test field will be available on the exhibit floor for the eighth year. New this year is an interactive “coating experience” area adjacent to the CP field. An international pavilion will allow networking and conducting of business with corrosion-related companies all over the world, including China, Colombia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and many more.

Corrosive Chronicles returns for the fourth year, featuring corrosion professionals in a theatre setting who will present their experiences on corrosion incidents in the field and lessons learned. As part of this program, the NACE Coatings Council and Water/Wastewater Council will present a joint seminar on practical solutions to real-world corrosion issues.

The 2019 MP Corrosion Innovation of the Year Awards will be presented just prior to the opening of the NACE Expo Monday evening. CoatingsPro will again recognise industry excellence in the application of commercial and industrial high-performance coatings with the third annual Contractors Awards Program.

The CORROSION 2019 keynote speaker is Jack Uldrich, a globally influenced futurist, speaker, and award-winning author of 11 books. He is a frequent speaker on technology, change management, and leadership. His talk is entitled, “Corrosion’s Crystal Ball: The future will arrive sooner than you think.”

As always, there are numerous social opportunities to spend time with friends and expand networks of corrosion professionals. Popular annual events include the NACE Foundation’s Sunday morning NACE Race and Darrel D. Byerley Memorial Golf Tournament; the Sunday evening Opening Night Reception; the Expo Grand Opening on Monday evening; the Corrosion Crew Social Brew event; the NACE Foundation’s Tuesday evening scholarship awards and GenNEXT Bash; and the Wednesday evening NACE Honoree Night. The NACE Foundation will also host Wednesday’s Corrosion: Opportunities Realized mini-camp for local high school students designed to educate and spread corrosion awareness to the next generation.
