PHMSA solicits proposals for pipeline safety R&D programme research awards

The US Department of Transportation's (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) announced that its pipeline safety research and development (R&D) programme is accepting proposals for research awards for research focusing on pipeline threat prevention; pipeline leak detection; pipeline anomaly detection/characterisation; underground natural gas storage; and liquefied natural gas.

PHMSA's R&D programme awards funding to eligible entities to stimulate research into, and promote commercialisation of, new technologies that can help protect people, property, and the environment from pipeline failures while keeping the energy sector operating uninterrupted.

Eligible applicants include universities and other academic institutions; individuals; profit organisations; nonprofit organisations; states; US territories and possessions; American Indian tribes; and local governments.

Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. EDT on 8 August 2017.
