The National Energy Board (NEB) has recently announced that it has completed 18 out of 22 recommendations that stemmed from the Office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development's (CESD) 2015 Audit of Pipeline Oversight.
The remaining four recommendations are scheduled for completion before the end of 2016. The NEB has provided an update to the CESD regarding the success of its corrective action plan.
The CESD’s audit was released on 26 January, with the NEB immediately posting a corrective action plan in response. Less than one month after the audit was released, the NEB launched an online condition compliance web portal.
The NEB accepted all of the audit report recommendations. In repose, the NEB has increased the visibility of pipeline condition status for the public, improving public transparency relating to emergency procedures manuals, and simplify and improve access to regulatory documents for project proposals that are assessed by the NEB – including detailed filing according to the status of project conditions and compliance.
The NEB will post an updated and completed corrective action plan to its website in early 2017.
"The NEB welcomed the audit's findings and I wish to advise the CESD Commissioner, and all Canadians, that we responded decisively and in a fullsome manner to the audit." Peter Watson, NEB Chair and CEO, stated.
