Consultation events for the HyNet North West Hydrogen Pipeline commenced on 1 October and will continue to run until 10 November. There is still time to get involved and have your say. Nine events have been scheduled throughout the consultation period, with online and in-person events seeing over 250 people attending so far. The final in-person event will take place on Monday 31 October.
The proposals being consulted are for the UK’s first 100% hydrogen pipeline at scale and comprise the construction, operation and maintenance of up to 125 km of new pipelines that would distribute hydrogen produced by Vertex Hydrogen, based at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex, to a number of industrial customers across the North West.
The pipeline itself will be underground, with approximately 10 ‘hydrogen above ground installations’ (HAGIs) required along the pipeline route. Cadent, who is bringing forward the proposals, is looking to understand any views or information that can help it develop and finalise its proposals.
Rob Donovan, Project Director, Cadent’s HyNet North West Hydrogen Pipeline said:
“It has been great to speak to so many people through our consultation events. We’re looking forward to hearing more views as we approach the close of our consultation on 10 November. If you can’t make it to one of our last in-person events, you can watch recordings of our two online events on our project website.
All the feedback we receive is important and will inform our work to finalise our plans ahead of submitting our application for a Development Consent Order to the Planning Inspectorate and Secretary of State in Spring 2023.
With just a few weeks left of this statutory consultation period, we hope that many people can come and provide feedback to help us develop the best possible pipeline route.”
The consultation hub is available at the project website (www.hynethydrogenpipeline.co.uk) where you can find out more about the project and provide feedback.
