World Pipelines,
The National Energy Board (NEB) will begin hearing Oral Indigenous Knowledge on the 2021 NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd (NGTL) System Expansion Project. The sessions will begin in Grande Prairie (30 April) and conclude in Calgary (13 - 17 May).
The NGTL System Expansion Project is an application to build an additional natural gas pipeline and associated facilities from close to Grande Prairie to north of Calgary, parallel or adjacent to the existing NGTL system.
The NEB recognises that Indigenous peoples have an oral tradition for sharing knowledge from generation to generation. This information cannot always be shared meaningfully or adequately in writing. Indigenous knowledge can help provide relevant information to the NEB, including information that may otherwise have been unavailable. This helps the NEB to identify potential environmental effects, strengthen any potential mitigation measures and create well-informed recommendations and decisions.
