The main equipment was delivered on Thursday 28 March 2019 to the Balticconnector project compression station in Inkoo. The equipment includes a compressor unit and its auxiliaries. Equipment installation has started and will be completed in April 2019. After that, installation work will continue with the installation of pipelines and cables related to the equipment.
The compressor unit and its auxiliaries are delivered from France by Thermodyn S.A.S, which is part of Baker Hughes, a GE company. The compressor unit represents state-of-the-art technology where the compressor is driven by an integrated electric motor, causing no local emissions. The compressor unit is equipped with magnetic bearings, which help ensure the unit's smooth and quiet operation.
“It is great that the compressor unit is delivered precisely at the agreed time so that we can then continue with the installation work as planned,” states Worksite Manager Mikko Ruokonen, with satisfaction.
The compressor station's construction work is progressing according to plan. The station's mechanical readiness will be reached in summer after which testing and commissioning will begin. The station will be ready for deployment in December 2019.
“The delivery of the equipment to the compressor station is one of the project milestones and will ensure that the entire project advances as scheduled,” says Tom Främling, Baltic Connector Oy's Project Director.
Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia. When completed, Balticconnector will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and will enable the opening of the gas market in Finland. The EU has granted funding to cover 75% of the project, and the Balticconnector gas pipeline is due to be completed by 2020.
