On 14 June 2019, the Governor of the Lubusz Voivodeship, issued the last two location decisions for the project ‘Construction of the Goleniów-Lwówek gas pipeline, DN 1000’. Together with the decisions issued by the Governor of the Greater Poland Voivodeship on 15 May 2019 and the Governor of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship on 17 May 2019, the decisions constitute a complete set of documents related to the implementation of this project.

The construction of the Goleniów-Lwówek gas pipeline is one of five projects to be implemented as part of the Baltic Pipe Project in Poland. The gas pipeline will be approximately 191 km long, with the nominal diameter of 1000 mm and the operating pressure of 8.4 MPa.

It will be constructed along the current Szczecin-Lwówek gas pipeline. It will be located in the area of three voivodeships: West Pomeranian, Lubusz and Greater Poland. It will cover 15 municipalities: Goleniów, Maszewo, Stargard, Dolice, Przelewice, Pelczyce, Strzelce Krajenskie, Zwierzyn, Santok, Rain, Skwierzyna, Przytoczna, Pszczew, Miedzychód and Lwówek.

Ultimately, the implementation of the planned gas pipeline will be divided into two stages:

  • 1st stage: the Goleniów-Cierzyce section, approximately 122 km long.
  • 2nd stage: the Cierzyce-Lwówek section, approximately 69 km long.

The project is intended to ensure that an increased quantity of gas can be collected from the Baltic Pipe undersea gas pipeline and the LNG Terminal in Swinoujscie. The implementation of the project will also be an essential element of the North-South Gas Corridor.

Baltic Pipe is a project implemented in close co-operation between GAZ-SYSTEM, a Polish gas transmission operator, and Energinet, a Danish transmission system operator for gas and electricity. It is meant as a new route for the supply of natural gas from Norway to the Danish and Polish markets and also to end users in neighbouring countries. Once implemented, the project will enhance energy security in Poland and in the entire CEE region and increase the competitiveness of the Polish gas market.
