On Wednesday 14 October 2015 during a meeting – consisting of Environment and Energy Minister Panos Skourletis, Amos Hochstein, US Special Envoy and Co-ordinator for International Energy Relations, and Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova – Greece stated that intends to continue its 180 km proposed IGB natural gas pipeline project with Bulgaria, should the project itself be financially feasible.
The IGB Greek-Bulgarian pipeline project will also be the topic of another meeting – discussing proposed issues with the project – intended to be held next week in Sofia.
Additionally, during the course of the meeting, Skoutletis also discussed the possibility of advancing the terms and conditions of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) transporting its supply through Greece for local and state societies.
Comments made in the meeting
Hochstein stated that significant progress had been made with regards to the IGB pipeline. He continued to advise Greece and the TAP pipeline to review and discuss the posed issues and concerns, in attempt to reach reliable solutions as soon a possible.
Hochstein explained in the meeting: "The USA wants to continue working with Greece for the country’s energy security but mostly on the role to be played by Greece as a strategic partner in the region."
