In a years time approximately 100 000 bpd of Bakken crude oil shall be transported through pipelines to refineries across the USA.

The North Dakota Public Service Commission voted for the pipeline as the mode of transportation for the crude oil in McKenzie County on 14 October.

NST Express LLC – part of The Woodlands, Texas-based NorthStar Midstream – intends to construct a 12 in. dia. crude oil pipeline in the county.

Commission Chairwoman Julie Fedorchak stated: “This is a 23 mile pipeline in the heart of the Bakken. Everything was pretty straightforward so we were able to turn it around pretty quickly,” continuing to explain that the pipeline would hold a maximum of 100 000 bpd.

The crude would be transported from the new NST Express Alexander Facility to its NST Transload East Fairview Facility. This “strategic location” intends to reduce traffic and provide a method of moving the oil to markets across the US.

NST Express hopes to complete the project by late 2016, costing between US$60 million and US$80 million.
