World Pipelines,

Israel Natural Gas Lines (INGL) has opened its new 22 km natural gas pipeline between Ashdod and Sorek – this section of pipeline connects the natural gas facility in Ashdod to the one in Sorek.

Nine building permits had been awarded to enable natural gas transmission to more factories in the region, consequently saving millions of shekels annually.

Orna Hozman-Bachor, Interior Ministry Director General said: “the connection of plants in the south will bring significant savings of tens of thousands of shekels a day. These savings will foster employment and economic development in the south.”

The Ministry of National Infrastructure, Energy, and Water Resources also stated that the Ashdod-Sorek section was vital for gas transportation, due to the gas from the Tamar reservoirs reaching Ashdod and then sent throughout Israel. It was added that by expanding the pipeline, it would be possible for an increase in gas transportation capacity to the power stations in the south.
