The West Pomeranian Voivode (Poland) has issued a decision approving the extension of the gas compressor station in Goleniów. It is the first of three decisions to be obtained by GAZ-SYSTEM for the expansion and construction of these infrastructure elements as a part of the Baltic Pipe project.

The construction project approved by the Voivode’s decision provides for the implementation of the investment in two stages:

  • First stage includes the extension of the Goleniów gas compressor station by three compressor units with a total capacity of 25 MW, reconstruction of process facilities on the premises of the existing gas compressor station, and construction of facilities and infrastructure of the gas compressor station.
  • Second stage of the investment includes the extension of the 5 MW compressor unit.

The investment area is located in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Goleniów municipality.

“The Goleniów gas compressor station is, in addition to the investments in Odolanów and Gustorzyn, a vital element of the investment programme of the onshore part of the Baltic Pipe. The expansion and construction of these three gas compressor stations will allow for efficient distribution of increased volumes of gas, which will be delivered to Poland after 2022. In the first quarter of this year, we expect decisions concerning the remaining two compressor stations” said Tomasz Stepien, President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM.

The decision issued by the West Pomeranian Voivode to permit the extension of the gas compressor station in Goleniów is immediately enforceable. Due to the strategic importance of the investment, this task is carried out based on the Special Purpose Gas Act.

The investment is a part of the Baltic Pipe project aimed at creating a new gas supply corridor in the European market. The project consists of five components. One of them is the extension and modernisation of the Polish natural gas transmission system. It includes connection of the offshore gas pipeline with the existing system, construction or modernisation of three gas compressor stations (Goleniów, Odolanów, and Gustorzyn), and development of the Niechorze-Ploty and Goleniów-Lwówek gas pipelines.
