Hydratight’s Profile Slide Attachment has launched a new tool to make pipeline machining services safer for technicians. The attachment has been custom designed for heavy cutting and beveling at the pre-weld stage, in combination with the company’s clamshell lathe range.
Its design, which currently has a patent pending, enables ‘hands-free’ weld preparation. Automation of the weld preparation process will increase operator safety due to a reduction in manual interaction with moving parts.
The Profile Slide Attachment will allow operators carry out facing, compound bevel, J-prep, ring type joint flange preparing and counterbore work. The device can cut a pipe wall up to 5 in. thick and bolts directly to Hydratight’s clamshells.
There are two models, with the larger model can be mounted on all Hydratight clamshells from 26 - 50 in. dia. and the smaller model is suitable from 8 - 24 in.
Lotus Zhou, Product Marketing Manager – Machining at Hydratight said: “We’ve been able to create a product that builds on our own high levels of safety. Automation of the pipe-end cutting process is accurate and efficient, but most importantly reduces risk.
“The two Profile Slide Attachment modules cover a wider range of pipe sizes and can be adjusted quickly during operations. The slide can also be fixed in a stationary position for counterboring. We believe it will be a highly versatile tool.”
