Schneider Electric and Cisco recently hosted a customer advisory board to review their smart pipeline solution. The Smart Connected Pipeline received extremely positive feedback from the board, which hosted representation from key major North American pipeline operators. The event covered key topics such as:
- Cybersecurity.
- Integration of new capabilities.
- Analytics.
- Fog commuting.
- Internet of Things (IoT).
The first phase of the Smart Connected Pipeline was released one and a half years ago. The Smart Connected Pipeline solution is designed to support the next generation of pipeline transportation:
- Targets the ageing infrastructure of the industry.
- Incorporates industry best practices.
- Contains better software, telecommunications and IT capacity.
Simply building a pipeline with good sensors is not enough in the age of technology. Along with operation solutions, pipelines need servers to store and process data, backup systems, and cyber security which protects pipeline data from the constant threat of attack from online hackers.Looking ahead, the pipeline industry must prepare itself to take the next step in pipeline solutions. Schneider Electric and Cisco plan to build on the Smart Connected Pipeline with a second iteration coming out this year. The latest iteration will continue to deliver cost savings and optimised operations, all in one package.
