The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) published notices of funding opportunity for the hazardous materials community safety grant (CST) and its technical assistance grant (TAG) for pipeline safety.

The CST programme provides up to US$1 million to nonprofit organisations to conduct outreach and training that prepares communities to deal with rail incidents involving Class 3 flammable liquids. The CST also funds training for state and local officials responsible for enforcing safety regulations for the transport of such materials.

The deadline to apply for a CST is 4 September 2017. TAG provide local communities and groups of individuals up to US$100 000 for technical assistance related to pipeline safety, including engineering or other scientific analysis, or to promote public participation in official proceedings.

The two week solicitation period for the TAG programme ends on 22 August 2017.
