Maritime Developments delivers new PVLS

Maritime Developments recently delivered a portable vertical lay system (PVLS) as part of a complete flexible pipe laying spread. The system includes a 350 t reel drive system, capable of handling multiple reels and it has key features to reduce the vessel mission cycle – such as eliminating the need to sea fasten the reels to the deck.

A portable solution that can be assembled on the quayside

Maritime Developments’ PVLS begins work on a major North Sea development this summer. The new equipment is a portable solution that can be assembled on the quayside, before being installed on the vessel. It has a compact footprint which allows more mission equipment to be carried on deck, therefore reducing port visits. Furthermore, its design allows for operations over the side of the vessel, which can open up additional operational sea state windows.

Significantly reduced vessel days

Utilisation of new technologies is often a way of making significant, long-lasting savings. Whilst investment may seem difficult to justify, when you review the large-scale benefits, potential return is staggering. Returns come from reduced overall vessel time – factoring in the time a vessel spends in port preparing for the mission, at sea executing the project and removing the mission-specific equipment upon return to port.

According to Maritime Developments’ client, the integrated system offered significantly reduced vessel days in comparison to other methods, thus reducing their costs in the long-term.
