Utonomy, the intelligent gas grid specialist, is delighted to announce the signing of its first contract with Delgaz Grid, the E.ON-owned Romanian gas distribution network operator. Having won a competitive tender in October 2025, Utonomy will implement its unique pressure control solution at a station in Resita, in western Romania.

Utonomy's UtonomyOne solution, using the newly-released SB750 actuator, will be deployed in a retrofit capacity on legacy Totalgaz Industrie pressure regulators at the station. The project will encompass a phased approach, starting with remote pressure set-point control using Ucontrol and Uconnect, before installing new intelligent gas grid product, Upredict, which uses machine-learning to optimise pressure in the network and minimise leakage, with documented methane reductions to date of up to 25%.
With hundreds of legacy systems installed across Romania, the ambition from all parties involved is that this project will lead to a region-wide deployment, retrofitting pressure reduction stations to create a modernised, remote control, truly intelligent gas grid.
Reducing methane emissions
Across Europe, gas distribution networks are under immediate pressure to reduce methane emissions, as a result of the EU's new Regulation on methane emissions reduction in the energy sector which was formally adopted in May 2024, and came into effect the following August, and are consequently searching for ways to efficiently modernise their networks, many of which suffer the challenges of ageing infrastructure.
Brian Croal, Head of Sales at Utonomy, said: "We are delighted to sign this contract with Delgaz Grid and hope it can be the first step on a long-lasting partnership to bring new, innovative and environmentally beneficial technologies to the wider gas distribution network space."
Tudor Pop, Director of Strategy & Gas Network Technology at Delgaz Grid, commented: "We are excited to collaborate with Utonomy to implement this innovative technology. The intelligent pressure control solution will allow us to optimise the operation of our networks, reduce methane emissions, and provide our customers with a safer and more reliable service. This investment reflects our commitment to sustainability and the modernisation of Romania's energy infrastructure."
The Utonomy suite of actuators is compatible with a wide range of regulators with outlet pressures of up to 8 bars; is ATEX Zone 0 certified; and is suitable for new and retrofit installations. The Delgaz Grid deployment forms part of Utonomy's expansion across mainland Europe, in addition to existing and imminent substantial UK rollouts.
