World Pipelines,
Origin Energy has recently awarded a USD$1 million contract to Wood Group, to provide design engineering for onshore pipelines. The detailed designs will be tailored for the Halladale, Black Watch and Speculant (HBWS) natural gas project in South West Victoria, Australia.
The work will see Wood Group Kenny (WGK) create the detailed design of onshore raw gas and Mono-Ethylene Glycol (MEG) pipelines from the well pad to the gas plant. Construction of the pipelines is anticipated to commence in approximately Q3 or Q415.
Extended reach drilling techniques
Whilst the HBWS gas fields are located in the offshore Otway Basin in Victoria, due to their proximity to the shore and to avoid sensitive marine environments, they are being drilled using extended reach drilling (ERD) techniques from onshore location and tied back to the existing Otway gas plant.
Wood Group will work from its Melbourne office but will also utilise upstream pipeline knowledge, globally.
In the past, WGK has completed concept and FEED studies for HBWS in order to investigate development solutions before a final design was submitted.
Building relationships with Origin Energy, in the region and nationally
Bob MacDonald, CEO of Wood Group Kenny, said: "We are pleased to provide our onshore pipeline design expertise for this important energy project for the State of Victoria. The contract for HBWS builds on our strong relationship with Origin Energy in the region, and nationally, where we continue to provide engineering services in support of both existing assets and new projects."
