World Pipelines,
According to local reports, Spectra Energy is investigating the potential for a new interstate natural gas pipeline expansion project, which would connect to its Texas Eastern Transmission pipeline. The new pipeline is being proposed in response to a solicitation for service from Duke Energy Carolinas, Duke Energy Progress and Piedmont Natural Gas Company.
Arthur Diestel, a spokesperson for Spectra Energy, stated that the expansion would "increase energy supply diversity, security and reliability in the South Atlantic region." The company asserted that the project would increase natural gas supply, provide new pipeline transportation facilities to support the needs of other regional power generators and natural gas customers and also address the growing demand for environmentally friendly natural gas. If the project is realised, the pipeline will begin transporting natural gas to local consumers by Q4 2018.
"We have begun early outreach with community leaders and elected officials about the Spectra Energy Pipeline project while continuing to evaluate and refine the proposed study corridor," said Diestel. The proposed geographic area under evaluation includes portions of the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina.
