Iraqi pipeline bombed

On 25 February, four bombs were set off close to a pipeline in northern Iraq. The pipeline is said to transport crude oil from the Bai Hassan oilfield to a Kirkuk degassing station.
An oil engineer recalled the events: "Four bombs blew up near a pipeline in Bai Hassan oilfield this morning, causing a fire. Firefighters are trying to put out the blaze.”
At the time of the attack, pumping operations on the pipeline had in fact ben halted for maintenance works. Two men have been wounded and one has been killed after three additional bombs went off as they approached the first site.
The attack came shortly after both Iran and Iraq signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU would see both countries explore the potential of exporting Iraqi oil through Iranian territory.
