On 17 November, Petrofac held its second annual Contractors’ Safety Forum in Dubai. This year’s theme was, ‘Evolution – Ready to engage for change’. The company brought together over 40 of its key contractors from around the world, to discuss and review its collective safety performance. This year Petrofac also invited clients, including representatives from BP, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and Zakum Development Company (ZADCO).

Marwan Chedid, CEO of Petrofac’s Engineering, Construction, Operations and Maintenance division, delivered the opening address to the 200 attendees and outlined the agenda for the day.

The key aim of the event was to develop a statement with three clear safety actions for all the companies present to take away and implement. The statement was then signed by each company to demonstrate their commitment to take the actions forward.

Two artists were on-hand throughout the day to ensure key points from the discussions were visually represented. The result was a colourful ‘artists wall’, which the facilitators used to develop the actions for the commitment statement.

Nahida Basu, Principal Advisor HSSE, and Eldin Mujic, Senior Manager, HSSE, also gave speeches on two of Petrofac’s safety campaigns: ‘line of fire’ and ‘driving safety’. This was followed by a panel discussion about how to promote safety, which included Petrofac employees and representatives from some of the company’s contractors.

Reflecting on the event, HSSE Director Andy Nickerson said: “It has been a day full of high energy and great participation. Last year we started with ‘collaboration’ as our theme, moving on to ‘evolution’ for this year’s forum. I am very grateful to everyone for their efforts in contributing to the success of the day.”
