AIS Survivex wins Digital Innovation Award for bp work

Beating off stiff competition to scoop the title, the team was acknowledged as making a significant impact in the field of digital innovation for the offshore industry, particularly around its work with bp.

bp needed to induct and train operations and maintenance (O&M) technicians for the GTA project – a multi-billion-dollar gas producing asset in Senegal and Mauritania, which includes a FPSO spanning a massive 130 km in length. The asset is located in the midwater 40 km from shore, where it dries and conditions the gas before transfer to a Hub Terminal facility comprising quarters for 216 personnel, utility platform and 650 m long terminal facility, protected by a 1.2 km breakwater 10 km offshore.

GTA was still in construction so a revolutionary two-week ‘blended learning’ induction programme was created, which included a mix of traditional face-to-face training and training with a digital twin of the asset delivered via a specially designed ‘Training Console’ – which acts like a mobile learning centre. The digital twin and Training Console were both developed by sister company, 3t Transform, harnessing the unique capabilities across the Group to create a truly blended learning experience for bp.

Using virtual reality headsets, O&M technicians were able to fully immerse themselves in the project and learn about its layout, safety-critical operating systems and procedures, as well as conducting a series of competency assessments prior to the project being built.

This innovative project highlights the strength of the 3t Energy Group offering. The Group combines the expertise of AIS Survivex, as well as the world number one in advanced simulator technology, Drilling Systems, and technology and software firm, 3t Transform. Together these companies are creating pioneering blended learning solutions which are helping the global energy sector work smarter, safer and more efficiently.

Paul Knowles, Vice President of Training at 3t Energy Group, said: “What an amazing result! We are extremely honoured and humbled to win this award in what is the equivalent of the offshore industry’s Oscars – the OAAs. Our work with bp delivered ground-breaking results, which ensured maximum learner engagement, strong team dynamic and creation of an unrivalled safety-first culture before the asset was even built! This was a true collaboration between ourselves and the bp team and I’d like to extend my thanks and appreciation to all involved for their hard work in making this project such a success. Special thanks go to the bp team for entrusting this important project to us. Well done to all the other OAA winners. We now feel part of a very special club representing the best of the best in our industry.”
