TransCanada begins shipping oil through Keystone’s southern leg

TransCanada will begin shipping crude oil through the southern section of the Keystone XL pipeline, which connects refineries on the Gulf of Mexico and major oil storage facilities in Cushing, Oklahoma.
The pipeline has undergone a series of inspection programmes and TransCanada has made some recent adjustments, reportedly installing a number of temperature gauges on a section of the pipeline in northern Texas in order to comply with heightened standards for pipeline safety and integrity. The pipeline has also received approval from the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The northern portion of the Keystone XL pipeline, which is due to ship oil from Canada to Nebraska, is yet to receive approval from the US State Department and President Barack Obama.
