Element Materials Technology has appointed George Winning to the newly created position of Global Corrosion Specialist, supporting the company’s growth and overall business strategy for corrosion testing in all of the sectors it serves.

The new recruit

George joins Element with a strong international reputation in corrosion, developed over the last twenty years while working for such organisations as Clariant, CAPCIS, Wood Group and more recently, Premier Oil. Beginning his career in the oil and gas sector, George moved into corrosion consultancy where he supported corrosion societies around the globe, establishing himself as a core member of the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) council in the UK. He has been involved with NACE International for a number of years chairing a range of committees and is currently a director of the NACE Institute, which sets policy on NACE training programmes.

Comments on Element’s decision

Rod Martin, Element’s Executive Vice President, comments: “We are delighted to add such an outstanding industry leader to our already impressive team of corrosion experts. In order to continue to drive our success in corrosion testing, we are always seeking to strengthen our team, allowing us to better serve our industry partners, whenever they need us. With George’s experience, knowledge and expertise, we hope to build upon Element’s current excellent reputation in corrosion testing to develop new responses to oil and gas sector challenges both now and in the future.”

George Winning himself commented: “Element’s success in corrosion testing is built on its sound methodology. The biggest corrosion issues facing our clients are the safety of personnel and the environmental impact corrosion continues to have on all aspects of society. Ensuring the right tests are conducted, to better predict and prevent corrosion incidents, and maintain the excellent standard of our laboratories, the better we are able to help our partners prevent the damaging consequences of corrosion.”

George assumed his new role at Element in September, and will work closely with teams at the Element laboratories in Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Houston and Sheffield.
