US President Donald Trump invoked the Defense Production Act on Monday to sign a series of energy-related presidential memorandums, the White House announced, as his administration aims to tackle rising fuel prices as a result of US and Israel's war on Iran.

Reuters reports that President Trump ?signed memorandums on coal supply chains, domestic petroleum production, natural gas transmission and liquefied natural gas capacity.

The US President also signed memorandums on grid infrastructure and other energy-related infrastructure.

"Today’s determinations allow the Department of Energy to use funding secured in the One Big Beautiful Bill ?to strengthen our grid infrastructure and unleash reliable, affordable, secure energy," White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said on X.

The Defense Production Act is a ?Cold War-era piece of legislation aimed at boosting production of goods for national security purposes.

Rising fuel prices ?have triggered higher prices in US on a range of goods and services, from ?airline tickets and housing to fertilizer and groceries.

World Pipelines’ April 2026 issue

The April 2026 issue of World Pipelines centres on how pipeline infrastructure is evolving to support the energy transition while maintaining integrity and reliability. A key theme is the uncertain trajectory of hydrogen, with the keynote questioning whether the hydrogen economy can realistically deliver without coordinated development of production, transport, and demand. Alongside this, the issue explores the often-overlooked role of pipeline networks as critical, ‘invisible’ infrastructure underpinning regions like Texas, while also addressing practical challenges such as distortion management, crack detection, and extending pipeline lifespan through improved inspection and data-driven approaches. Offshore topics include long-term flexible pipe integrity and the repurposing of pipelines for new uses like hydrogen, while broader industry progress is reflected in IPLOCA’s 60 year milestone and the rapid growth of HDD technologies to meet increasing global project demand.
