REXA, provider of electrohydraulic actuation technology, has announced the delivery of a REXA Rotary ElectraulicTM Actuator with dual booster pumps that will be installed to control pump station pressure along an important petroleum pipeline, which is transporting energy supplies to the Midwestern United States.

A first of its kind, the actuator’s dual P40 booster pump setup works at extremely fast speeds, allows for modulating duty cycle, and enables precise positioning independent of load variation.

Pump station control systems must be able to provide fast response to pressure disturbances including: starts, stops, and flowrate changes. It must also provide fast response to set point adjustments at one station in order to achieve the desired flow rate and pressure at another.

“Pressure control is very interactive from one pump station to another. Pressure fluctuations at one station will affect all of the other pump stations on the pipeline,” stated Joe Greene, Oil & Gas Industry Manager, REXA, Inc. “Our Rotary Electraulic™ Actuator ensures stable pressure control, allowing the operator to run the pipeline closer to hydraulic capacity, which significantly increases throughput and efficiency.”

Specifications for the REXA Rotary Electraulic™ Actuator with dual P40 booster pumps include:

  • Application use: Pump Station Control.
  • Mount: 24 inch Fisher V260B ball valve.
  • Valve Rotation: 90 °.
  • Actuator rate of travel: 90 degrees in four seconds.
  • Actuator rated output: 400,000 lbs. (45, 194 N · m).
  • Actuator rated for hazardous area: CSA Class 1 Division 2.
  • Fail-safe position on loss of incoming power: Fail in place.
