World Pipelines,
A ceremony was held on 15 June in northwest China at the Khorgos border crossing to mark the launch of Line C of the Central Asia-China natural gas pipeline. Natural gas transported through Line C reached the Horgos Port in China's Xinjiang region on the same day, signifying that the newly constructed pipeline is ready to become fully operational. The 1830 km pipeline runs parallel with Line A and Line B, starting from the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan border and running through central Uzbekistan and southern Kazakhstan before reaching China’s Xinjiang region to link up with the Third West-East gas pipeline.
During the ceremony, Zhang Peng, an official from the China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), stated that the pipeline would already be carrying approximately 14 billion m3 of gas to China by October 2014. Capacity is expected to reach 25 million m3 by the end of 2015.
Construction of Line D is expected to start later this year.
