Vallourec Star, LP in Youngstown, OH, received the GOLD Encouraging Environmental Excellence Award from the Ohio EPA for their comprehensive environmental programme and activities that go beyond regulatory compliance requirements to reduce waste and improve environmental performance.

The Encouraging Environmental Excellence Programme, also known as the E3 Programme, recognises organisations for their achievements in environmental stewardship and their commitment to environmental excellence. The E3 program highlights the many actions, initiatives, and programmes in place that minimise the impact of business and organisational activities on the environment beyond measures required by permits or rules.

“Through recycling efforts, waste-reduction processes, renewable energy programs, and sustainability programs, these companies are making a major impact in their communities,” Director Stevenson said. “I am very pleased to honour these organisations with the Encouraging Environmental Excellence award.”

Some of Vallourec Star’s achievements highlighted by the Ohio EPA include:

  • Sustained waste recycling rate of > 90%.
  • Beneficial reuse and landfill avoidance of byproducts equating to more than 40 000 t since 2018.
  • Overall efforts to conserve and reuse water at a rate of >95% on-site, and treatment chemical efficiency and usage/ton reductions achieved.
  • Continuous Improvement as a core value.

Additionally, they highlighted Vallourec Star’s Carbon-Free Power certification that guarantees they are purchasing 100% Carbon-Free energy from Energy Harbor for the term 1 January, 2020 through December 2024.

Bertrand Frischmann, Senior Vice President, North America, commented "All our teams in North America are deeply committed to Vallourec’s Environmental ambition to further reduce our energy and water consumption as well as maximise waste recycling. The Ohio EPA award and our carbon-free power certification are key milestones in our journey towards a smaller carbon footprint and a greener planet."
