Oil pipeline damaged in Syria

World Pipelines,

The major oil pipeline connects the Rumeila oil fields in the Eastern Syriac desert with a refinery in Homs, which supplies Damascus and is one of only two refineries in the country.

Residents of the besieged city have reported a dense plume of black smoke still rising from the pipeline leading many to believe the pipeline has been severely damaged.

State media has stated that an armed terrorist organisation is behind the attack on the pipeline but residents of the city have said that it was mistakenly hit by government warplanes seen over the city.

The severing of the pipeline is likely to put pressure on fuel supplies in the capital.
