Approval procedure begins for Radeland 2 compressor station

The Brandenburg State Office for the Environment has started the approval procedure for the Radeland 2 compressor station in Baruth/Mark. The station is part of the infrastructure for the European gas pipeline link (EUGAL). The Radeland 2 compressor station will be applied for and approved in a separate procedure.
The application documents for the compressor station will be on public display from 17 January 2018 to 16 February 2018. Alongside the public-interest bodies, citizens can also express their thoughts and concerns regarding the project. The deadline for submitting statements is 16 March 2018. The hearing for statements will be held on 8 May 2018 at Baruth town hall.
The Radeland 2 compressor station comprises three compressors and a gas pressure regulation and measuring system. The station will also connect to the Yamal gas pipeline link (JAGAL). The gas pressure regulation and measuring system is scheduled for completion at the end of 2019 and completion of the Radeland 2 compressor station for the end of 2020.
Compressor stations are an important element in the pipeline network. From the source to the consumer, natural gas covers many kilometres and loses pressure in the process. This loss has to be balanced out – compressor stations raise the gas pressure and pump the gas through the pipeline.
