The award presentation to the honouree was made in Washington at the association’s annual member meeting. Hifi was recognised for its ‘Deep Fake Pipeline Verification & Validation using Machine Learning’ project, released earlier this year.

We are very pleased with the advancements and innovations such as Deep Fake, which Hifi continues to generate using our machine learning capabilities,” said Ehsan Jalilian, Hifi’s Vice President and CIO. “Deep Fake verification is a key differentiator that provides a turnkey offering for our partners looking to broaden their verification and validation strategies.”

Using the Hifi High Fidelity Distributed Sensing (HDSTM), the new Deep Fake development provides for digital verification of pipeline monitoring through advanced machine learning (ML) software which mimics signatures of various events and alarm conditions, such as pipeline leaks detected by Hifi’s HDS optical sensing technology. This is used to test system effectiveness. The concept behind this patent pending simulation method is to utilise ML approaches to create a synthetic leak by using Hifi’s large database of field-simulated leaks. Using this innovative approach, the testing of leak detection systems can be simplified and automated by releasing fake leaks either on demand or at various random intervals rather than a physical product release.

Hifi has completed the process of generating fake leaks, blending them with real-time pipeline data, and testing the HDS leak detection system’s ability to successfully detect and classify the leaks to support routine and cost-effective auditing in support of the long-term maintenance and reliability goals of pipeline operators.
