Scottish firm WFS Technologies has been honoured with an Economic Disruptor of the Year 2019 title for its work on subsea digitalisation. The award comes less than a week after the company won Oil & Gas UK’s Business Innovation accolade for its Seatooth® technology.

WFS technologies was named as the Economic Disruptor of the Year for Scotland and Northern Ireland at The Spectator’s annual awards which recognise companies have disrupted their marketplace. WFS Technologies’ wireless Seatooth® products have the potential to disrupt the offshore energy industry by providing operators of oil and gas platforms and wind farm installations with the ability to digitalise their subsea assets, reducing cost and increasing asset life through insight derived from real-time data.

Brendan Hyland, chief executive officer at WFS Technologies, was presented with the accolade at The Spectator awards ceremony in London. He said: “Winning the Economic Disruptor of the Year is a tremendous recognition of our commitment to deliver technologies which improve safety, reduce risk of environmental incidents as well as minimising the cost of ownership.”

Theo Priestley, chief marketing officer at WFS Technologies said: “It’s testament to the hard work of the team who are involved in the continuing evolution of our Seatooth products which has resulted in a ground-breaking technology for the offshore energy industry. Subsea digitalisation is a major focus for operators as they look to understand their field operations through real-time data, and WFS is at the forefront of this new wave with its unique wireless products.”

WFS Technologies' (WFS) range of true wireless Subsea Internet of Things® (SIoT) products provide offshore operators with asset integrity monitoring with embedded edge computing for real-time insight. The company has developed a range of solutions for the energy industry to improve safety, increase operational flexibility, reduce costs and extend asset life.

Last week, WFS Technologies picked up the Business Innovation award at Oil & Gas UK’s annual awards ceremony. The award recognised the firm’s Seatooth technology. An industry first, Seatooth enables the automation and digitalisation of subsea assets through its ability to communicate through steel, ground, sea water and the water-air boundary. It also performs a key role in tackling the real-time monitoring of offshore assets and production both above and below surface.

Founded in 2003, WFS has delivered over 7000 Seatooth devices through its team of dedicated software and hardware engineers based in Livingston, Scotland.
