GAIL India – India’s largest natural gas marketer – has recently ordered pipelaying work on the a 345 km portion of the Jagadishpur-Haldia-Bokaro-Dhamra (JHBDPL) natural gas pipeline.

The 345 km section, from Phulpur to Dobhi, will cost approximately Rs 306 crore. It is anticipated that the pipelaying will begin at the end of October 2016, with operations been completed by December 2018.

GAIL India released the following statement regarding the project: "GAIL has initiated a major step towards the construction of the JHBDPL by approving placement of orders for pipeline laying work of 345 km from Phulpur to Dobhi.”

GAIL India’s statement also explained the benefits of the pipeline project: "The JHBDPL pipeline network shall serve to be the gateway for rapidly expanding natural gas based clean energy to Eastern India spanning across five states ushering a new era of growth and development with a potential to serve as a natural gas hub for the neighbouring Asian economies of Nepal and Bangladesh.”

The JHBDPL project stretches over 2539 km and is set for completion in 2020. The pipeline project is said to cost approximately Rs 13 000 crore.
