“PennEast is honoured to support the South Jersey Chamber Foundation, which provides teachers with invaluable professional development opportunities that ultimately impacts thousands of students across New Jersey,” said Pam Witmer of PennEast Pipeline Company. “The South Jersey Summer Institute for Educators is a critical programme to ensure teachers across New Jersey have the tools they need to prepare their students for a career in the STEM fields.”

The PennEast Powering STEM grant will help support the South Jersey Chamber Foundation’s South Jersey Summer Institute for Educators (SJSI). In its 27th year, the programme exposes teachers to businesses across the region that focus on STEM, providing each educator with an opportunity to see first hand, the application of what they are teaching in an actual work environment. Teachers are then able incorporate this knowledge into their daily lesson plans to give students the skills they need to pursue STEM-related careers. The South Jersey Chamber Foundation will utilise the PennEast Powering STEM grant to cover for transportation costs and supplies for educators attending the South Jersey Summer Institute for Educators in July 2018.

“We appreciate PennEast’s generous grant, which shows their strong commitment to investing in teachers and students across New Jersey,” said Debra P. DiLorenzo, President & CEO, South Jersey Chamber Foundation. “The South Jersey Summer Institute for Educators is an important programme that gives teachers valuable insight into the businesses that are fuelling our state’s economy. This generous grant will help us to continue to help teachers better prepare their students for a 21st century education and career.”

Through the PennEast Powering STEM Grant Programme and Community Connector Grant Programme, PennEast has provided more than US$770 000 in grants to local nonprofit organisations, first responders and STEM programmes.
