Colonial Pipeline’s Vice President of Operations Services and Chief Risk Officer, Angela Kolar, has been selected to chair the Pipeline Safety Management System (SMS) Industry Team.
The Pipeline SMS Industry Team represents oil and gas industry pipeline operators and trade associations in their drive toward zero pipeline incidents. The team plays a critical role in helping operators understand, manage, and continuously improve safety performance.
“This team brings together a wide range of industry operators to focus on the most foundational aspect of the pipeline industry – safety,” said Colonial Pipeline President and CEO Joseph Blount. “Colonial Pipeline is proud to support Angela Kolar’s key leadership role on this mission-critical team.”
Members of the Pipeline SMS Industry Team represent the American Petroleum Institute (API), the Association of Oil Pipe Lines, the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, the American Gas Association, the American Public Gas Association, and the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association. The Pipeline SMS is a collaborative and integrated approach to understanding, managing and continuously improving safety at every stage of pipeline operations.
As chair for the next two years, Kolar will lead the team which is focused on increasing participation among operators of all sizes, communicating the industry’s SMS successes with regulators and key stakeholders and providing ongoing support as companies continue to implement and assess the effectiveness of their SMS programmes. This effort includes being an SMS voice and industry spokesperson and putting tools in the hands of operators through e-training, workshops, third-party assessment opportunities, and other support resources.
In addition to her new leadership role on Pipeline SMS Industry Team, Kolar currently serves on the API Pipeline Steering Group and the API Pipeline Safety Excellence Sub-Committee.
