The American Petroleum Institute (API) released the following statement on 6 August in response to the bipartisan Senate passage of the Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Reauthorisation bill, or the PIPES Act (S. 2299).
“The PIPES Act takes important steps to make pipelines safer for surrounding communities and the environment, and we’re pleased this bipartisan group of Senators recognised its importance and worked to ensure it moved forward,” said Vice President of Midstream & Industry Operations Robin Rorick. “We’re hopeful the House can pass bipartisan legislation quickly so operators can continue to safely, reliably and affordably transport the natural gas and oil that Americans rely on every day.”
API represents all segments of America’s oil and natural gas industry. Our more than 600 members produce, process and distribute most of the nation’s energy. The industry supports more than ten million US jobs and is backed by a growing grassroots movement of millions of Americans. API was formed in 1919 as a standards-setting organisation. In our first 100 years, API has developed more than 700 standards to enhance operational and environmental safety, efficiency and sustainability.
