TMK, one of the world’s leading producers of tubular products for the oil and gas industry, explained how it consistently integrates ESG principles across its regions of operation at the 15th Russian Regions in the Focus of Changes international conference. TMK was official partner to the event.

Speaking at the ESG Transformation in Russian Regions: Balancing the Interests of Business, Society and State roundtable, Denis Papin, TMK’s Head of ESG, noted that project teams have been set up at TMK sites across the Russian regions to develop roadmaps and initiate measures to incorporate ESG principles across TMK’s operations.

He emphasised that TMK’s production and sales footprint goes beyond Russia, which is why the Company closely follows global ESG trends, including the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). He reiterated that TMK has transformed its steel production by switching completely to smelting steel from scrap in electric arc furnaces. As a result, the Company has improved its manufacturing productivity and product quality while significantly reducing its environmental footprint.

Denis Papin noted that TMK regularly engages with investors, particularly with Western investment funds, providing information on its environmental, social and governance performance. This allows TMK to show strong growth momentum, identify growth points, and implement its strategic projects in line with applicable requirements.

Denis Papin, Head of ESG at TMK, said:

“TMK maintains an ongoing dialogue on ESG topics not only with investors but also with its customers, many of whom are already developing their own sustainability requirements and criteria. Equally important, we also see demand for ESG compliance from the Company’s internal audiences. For example, we note that job applicants, our future employees, are sensitive to the environmental credentials of our operations and TMK’s efforts as a socially responsible employer. We fully recognise that ESG is a complex matter affecting all areas of the Company’s activities.”

The 15th Russian Regions in the Focus of Changes international conference was held in a hybrid online/offline format, discussing regional development in the context of global economic trends. The conference events brought together guests from across Russia (from Moscow to Vladivostok), as well as from European, Asian and CIS countries. The conference’s agenda included business and academic days comprising plenary sessions, open lectures and roundtables, master classes, over 20 research sections, and a youth forum.
