Formerly known as IMechE Engineering Training Solutions, Argyll-Ruane was the original name of the business the Institution acquired in 2012, and the return of the familiar name invokes the values of expertise, knowledge and customer service with which the company has been synonymous since its formation in 1985.

IMechE Argyll Ruane provides world class training, examinations and consultancy support to a wide range of organisations and industries in the fields of NDT and corrosion prevention. It runs over 350 courses each year.

General Manager Chris Kirby explains “We have been working hard over the last six months reviewing and, where necessary improving, every aspect of our customer service provision, from the ease of our booking procedure through to the quality of our training and the robustness of our examinations. I am very proud to be renaming our company IMechE Argyll Ruane and will ensure that our service levels continue to be worthy of our prestigious heritage.”

The return of the Argyll Ruane name follows significant investment made by the organisation over the last six months. The Ultrasonic Testing department has grown with the addition of advanced UT experts Andrew King and Jordan Wood, whilst Craig Hobson has returned to head up the Examination Centre.

Methods such as Weld Inspection and Radiography have also been boosted by the return of Steve Pilley to the business this year bringing a wealth of experience in industries such as oil and gas, pressure vessel manufacturing, refineries, pipelines, fabrication and castings.

A number of additional administrative staff have also been employed in customer services, sales and examinations to ensure that students receive the best possible service from initial enquiry through to receiving their examination results.

Course material has been reviewed and examination processes improved to ensure robustness, fairness and consistency. In addition, there has been a large review and update of training and examination samples provided by its sister company, Sonaspection Ltd., to ensure that students work on pieces that are fair and representative.

With a number of exciting developments underway, including the roll-out of further online training, developing the next generation of NDT professionals through the Modern Apprenticeship scheme and the development of new courses such as Pulsed Eddy Current and Phased Array: Critical Defect Sizing, IMechE Argyll Ruane will continue to offer an ever greater range of quality training services.

Following the significant investment made at its Sheffield-based Engineering Training Centre, IMechE Argyll Ruane will shortly be opening a new dedicated Radiographic Testing Centre located just outside Rotherham, South Yorkshire, just a short drive away.

Demonstrating its commitment to the industry and due to increasing demand, the new Radiographic Training Centre will be equipped to offer a full range of RT training. Training Manager, Andrew King adds “Our new centre will give us the ability to run frequent standard courses throughout the year and also to respond flexibly to the demands of candidates wishing to take refresher and recertification training and examinations.”

Alongside standard courses, advanced techniques such as Computed Radiography will also be available, delivered by expert trainers.
