Sonomatic, a leader in the provision of advanced automated ultrasonic inspection services, has built a new facility, designed for NDT and integrity, in Aberdeen.

The company has a team of highly skilled technicians, inspectors, engineers and rope access NDT inspectors who can offer high quality inspections and effective client support.

Sonomatic provides inspection services, covering both onshore and offshore contracts.

Sonomatic NDT is a member of UKAS and the Industrial Rope Access Training Association (IRATA), offering both conventional and advanced NDT techniques. In addition to the conventional NDT methods, the company offers alternative inspection methods, including long range or remote inspection methods.

Sonomatic has the resources to cover the entire range of NDT inspections, including: radiography, heat treatment, hydro-testing, visual inspection, magnetic particle testing, dye pen inspection, eddy current, liquid particle inspection, positive material identification (PMI), ultrasonic inspection and advanced services, heat exchanger tube bundle inspection and rope access inspectors.

The organisation is also equipped to offer mobile onsite support in all NDT inspection disciplines. Sonomatic mobile technicians are trained to carry out each of the above inspections while also providing rope access capabilities for areas on site that are not readily accessible.

Sonomatic’s new facility houses three large radiography bays which are in operation 24 hr/d, seven days a week. Equipped to accept and inspect projects of large scales and volumes, the facility is equipped with advanced safety and monitoring systems, allowing the company to provide safe and high quality inspections.

The facility has a large specified heat treatment area, which holds permanent heat treatment machines. A 144 m2 hydrostatic testing bay offers the availability and ability to produce a quick turn around and complete large of jobs, including 24 hour tests.

There is also a weld repair area. If the pipework does not conform to the testing specification and a repair is required, then this can be done by the client’s personnel within the premises. The weld can then be retested immediately, offering a solution that minimises downtime, logistical and personnel costs, carbon footprint and will also allow a more fluent completion of work scopes.

The Core facility is located approximately 4 miles from Aberdeen Harbour. The location was carefully selected, with consideration given to client’s logistical needs as they endeavour to meet critical turnaround times.

Sonomatic’s investment in Aberdeen will continue as it looks to complement its NDT services by building a paint shop at the site.
