Keystone pipeline not limited to US steel

According to news sources, the Keystone XL pipeline is not subject to US President Donald Trump's executive order that requires infrastructure projects to be built using American steel.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a spokesperson for the White House, stated that due to the language used in Trump’s presidential directive, issued in January, TransCanada Corp. does not have to build the Keystone XL oil pipeline solely with American steel. The order applies to “all new pipelines, as well as retrofitted, repaired or expanded pipelines,” stating that US pipeline projects falling into these categories must use US steel "to the maximum extent possible." However, the Keystone XL pipeline is already under construction and the most of its steel pipe has been acquired.
“The Keystone XL pipeline is currently in the process of being constructed, so it does not count as a new, retrofitted, repaired or expanded pipeline,” Huckabee Sanders said.
According to abc News, TransCanada has stated that most of the steel that will be used for the pipeline would be from North America – including Canada and Mexico.
