Transneft Diascan patents its testing facility as a metrological facility
Published by Lydia Woellwarth,
Transneft Diascan has been granted a Patent of the Russian Federation for its metrological testing facility. The document protects the expansion of functions of the company’s testing facility, which allows the carrying out of metrological works.
Transneft Diascan’s testing facility is unique in terms of its equipment and technical possibilities. The facility has no analogue in the international pipeline inspection practice. It is devised for pulling pipeline inspection gadgets (PIGs) via pipelines filled with operational fluid (30% glycerine solution) and most precisely simulates in-line inspection of oil trunk pipelines. The main mission of the testing facility is to conduct integrated inspection of PIGs to improve their design as well as to enhance the methods used to interpret defects discovered during in-line inspection. Currently, the test ground has more than 12 000 defects to solve those tasks, including natural defects from the existing oil and petroleum product trunk pipelines. Moreover, the test ground has all the necessary conditions for metrological works with a view to calibration and verification of in-line inspection tools as measuring devices. This technical solution is protected by the patent.
Transneft Diascan already holds patents that protect technical solutions created at the testing facility: ‘A method to test a pipeline inspection tool in a circuitous pipeline testing facility’, ‘A testing facility’s pipeline with a pipeline PIG trap’, ‘A testing facility’, and ‘Pipeline inspection tools’ capacity checking method’.
Transneft Diascan is a high tech and knowledge intensive business with an advanced scientific and technological base, and high potential for innovation. As of 5 March, Transneft Diascan owns a package of documents protecting intellectual property, which includes 39 utility patents, 47 invention patents (including international patents), 36 software certificates and 9 database certificates.
