The American Petroleum Institute has issued a statement applauding the Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) on the release of their Pipeline Safety Legislative proposals.

“API is pleased that PHMSA has released their Pipeline Safety Reauthorisation proposal so that Congress can act to reauthorise this important safety programme. Pipelines are the safest way to transport the energy Americans use every day, and in order to improve upon industry’s strong safety record and reach its goal of zero pipeline incidents, it is imperative that the industry, regulatory environment and PHMSA be positioned to meet current and future safety challenges,” said Robin Rorick, Vice President of midstream and industry operations at API. “PHMSA’s legislative proposal is an important step in that direction, authorising multi-year appropriations, providing pipeline operators with the flexibility to use the latest technologies in managing safety risks and modernising outdated regulations to allow our industry to more effectively allocate resources to more impactful safety priorities. API will continue to work with Congress and the Administration in further developing a bill that is reflective of the industry’s priorities to effectively advance safety.”
