ROSEN’s Challenging Pipeline Diagnostics Division once again participated in a successful Unpiggable Pipelines Solutions forum, which took place 14 - 15 June at the Marriot Westchase Hotel in Houston, Texas (USA). As a gold sponsor of the event, the dedicated ROSEN team hosted an interactive booth and presented two technical papers.

Throughout the conference, ROSEN experts spoke one-on-one with members of the industry. They explained why, at ROSEN, they refuse to accept that a pipeline is unpiggable The ROSEN Group has dedicated an entire diagnostics division to finding inline inspection solutions for these pipelines that they refer to, instead, as challenging pipelines. The Challenging Pipeline Diagnostics Division, backed by ROSEN’s comprehensive technology portfolio, utilises the Toolbox Method, in which they can combine different components and methods, in order to tailor an individual inline inspection solution that overcomes each unique challenge of a given pipeline.

On the first day of the forum, Corey Richards, Head of Business Development for the Challenging Pipeline Diagnostics Division in Asia Pacific, presented the paper ‘Inline MFL inspection of a subsea vent line with a self-propelled robotic unit’. In his presentation, he explained the flexible, innovative solution that was applied in order to perform the first-ever inline inspection of a subsea vent line. He continued to explain how this robotic propulsion unit could open doors for the inspection of other – previously considered unpiggable – assets.

On the second day of the forum, the Challenging Pipeline Diagnostics Division’s own Solution Expert, Stefan Vages, presented the paper “Inline inspection of multi diameter gas pipelines at low pressure’. In his presentation, he outlined the specific challenges that typically prevent the successful, and complete, inline inspection of these pipelines. He said that there are often pipe segments that cannot be inspected due to the combination of various challenges, including unique geometry. He went on to explain the specific application potential of ROSEN’s newly developed suite of multi diameter tools, and how they could negotiate many of these complex pipeline segments and extremely low pressures in order to perform a comprehensive inline inspection service.

This event provided a unique gathering of industry leaders and decision-makers in which valuable discussion could take place on the further development of inspection possibilities and solutions for pipelines that are considered unpiggable. The ROSEN Group is looking forward to future participation in this event.
