Eesti Gaas subsidiary to construct onshore section of Baltic Connector pipeline

EG Ehitus AS, a subsidiary of Estonian natural gas and electricity utility Eesti Gaas, will manage the construction of the Baltic Connector's Estonian underground transmission line.
The design and construction of the 55 km route of the Kiili-Paldiski pipeline will be completed in 18 months, with construction costing just over €43.4 million plus VAT.
"For us, it is a large-scale and diverse project with great responsibility, but with the same recognition that we can contribute to the biggest gas project of the near future," said Ants Noot, Chairman of the Management Board of Eesti Gaas. "Eesti Gaas has the best ability and competence in the market to complete the work and maintain a timetable.”
"The design work will end by the end of this year, but we have divided the design into phases so that construction works can be started from August to September," said Ahto Aruvalli, Chairman of the Management Board of EG Ehitus AS. According to the contract, the construction works must be completed by the end of the summer 2019, when it is possible to transport natural gas from the Estonian network to the Finnish network via the Kiili-Paldiski pipeline and vice versa, "said Aruvalli.
After that, a reception and training session will begin, which lasts for two to three months. The final handover of work will take place in October 2019, which technically means the adoption of probe nodes, the Kiili gas station's regular gas station, line shaft nodes and other necessary equipment.
Baltic Connector connects the gas networks of Estonia and Finland and is a prerequisite for a functioning regional gas market and the diversification of supply sources in the Baltic-Finnish region. The gas connection is due to be completed by 2020.
The main activity of the subsidiary company of Eesti Gaas, EG Ehitus, is the construction of gas pipelines and facilities as well as the design and implementation of gas supply and the sale, installation and maintenance of gas and heating systems, as well as complex services for the owners and operators of natural gas supply systems.
