International subsea equipment rental and solutions specialist Ashtead Technology has entered into a global partnership with Whitecap Scientific Corporation, developers of ROV3D Recon. ROV3D Recon is a ‘plug and play’ computer vision solution that transforms subsea video collected by remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) into real-time 3D data.
ROV3D Recon allows any ROV with two cameras to generate real-time 3D models of structures and assets. By seamlessly adding 3D scanning capabilities to routine ROV operations, subsea integrity teams get access to data that improves situational awareness for more informed decision making about a wide range of subsea tasks and projects.
Under the deal, Ashtead Technology will have exclusive access to ROV3D Recon for the offshore rental market. Through Ashtead Technology, customers will receive access to ROV3D Recon hardware and software systems, in-field support, training and post-collection data support with optional re-processing services available to customers using the company’s 3D modelling and analysis expertise.
ROV3D Recon will be available to rent from Ashtead Technology’s extensive sales and distribution network including facilities in Aberdeen, Abu Dhabi, Halifax, Houston and Singapore.
Tyler de Gier, General Manager of Welaptega, Ashtead Technology’s inspection and integrity engineering business, said: “We are delighted to enter into an exclusive global partnership with Whitecap Scientific which will not only enhance Ashtead Technology’s fleet of subsea rental equipment but augment our 3D imaging and metrology capability as part of our asset integrity offering.
“We are focused on the development and application of new technologies which assist in the acquisition of data that can be used intelligently by our customers to lower the total cost of ownership of subsea assets, lower the risk of failure and reduce intervention. Adding ROV3D Recon to our existing capabilities means we can now offer customers a more flexible 3D imaging and metrology package that generates live 3D models using GVI procedures and without the need for offshore personnel and costly data collection.
“We look forward to seeing ROV3D Recon performing in the field and helping our customers make faster and more informed decisions about the integrity and future performance of their subsea assets and infrastructure.”
Sam Bromley, CEO of Whitecap Scientific Corporation, said: “Whitecap Scientific is proud to partner with Ashtead Technology to further our mission of empowering teams with actionable 3D data.
“As staunch believers in the "right-tool-right-job" mindset, ROV3D Recon finds its natural home alongside Ashtead Technology's complementary 3D offerings and expertise. With this exclusive global partnership, offshore teams need look no further than Ashtead Technology for the most comprehensive suite of offerings for acquiring the data they need. Never before has 3D data acquisition been so accessible, flexible, and easy."
