XL Global Group is relaunching as a global multi-discipline technology and engineering group, following a period of investment in acquisitions, new divisions, people and technology. The integrated group has been awarded over US$10 million in new contracts.

Headquartered in Aberdeen and initially formed in 1993, XL Group now comprises eight divisions following the recent acquisitions of Valve4U and OGV as well as the creation of Integrity XL.

Built on strong oil and gas industry foundations, the company’s roots are in process automation and telecommunications.

Atlantic XL, the group’s offshore telecommunications business, has secured contracts with Wood to design, install, commission, and maintain the platform telecoms package, navigation and CCTV systems for Husky.

While Automation XL has been contracted to deliver flow assurance in a heavy fuel oil heating system for pipelines in Rhodes, Greece and to apply electrical and control technology into a mechanical lifting system for vessels in Miami.

Aquidata XL is the metering and data acquisition stream of the business that works closely with Automation XL in joint delivery of projects.

Integrity XL was formed this year when asset integrity specialists, Stuart Sinclair and Peter Fraser, approached the group with the opportunity to create a new business stream in integrity management that complemented the existing engineering capability and was a natural extension of the group’s process, control and automation expertise.

Integrity XL delivers asset integrity management services from conceptual and front end multi-discipline engineering, detailed design and engineering, through to construction and commissioning that manage risk, without compromising on safety. With the intelligent application of innovative technology and a multi-skilled workforce, Integrity XL specialises in process plant field services, with particular focus on shutdowns, commissioning and decommissioning projects.

The consolidated group, which now boasts a turnover of around US$20 million and employs 75 people in five locations, brings together a wealth of knowledge, expertise and technology to deliver efficiency, performance and safety through turnkey solutions for oil and gas, energy, LNG, decommissioning, manufacturing, distilleries, education, healthcare, utilities.

Founder and chief executive, Colin Laird, said: “Over the past ten years we’ve also acquired Aquidata XL, Atlantic XL, Access XL, Bennett Engineering and Oryx. At first glance, they may seem disparate but they are synergistic and, together, make us a more complete solutions provider.

“We’ve spent the last 12 months consolidating the group, bedding in the acquisitions, investing in people and products that enable us to solve even the most complex industrial challenges. We’re now in a stronger position where the accumulated knowledge and expertise across all sectors in which we operate presents a highly attractive offering.

“We’re winning work because of our growing reputation for delivering reliability on budget and on time but also because of our ability to credibly challenge and pioneer the development of technology and applications that deliver continuity, efficiency and compliance for our clients, wherever they operate in the world. And these new contracts are testament to this.”

Headquartered in Aberdeen, with operations throughout the UK and in St John’s, Canada, XL Group operates globally across Europe, South America, North America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Its eight divisions are: Automation XL, Atlantic XL, Aquidata XL, Access XL, Oryx XL, OGV XL, Valve4U XL and Integrity XL.
